Susan Kollar is the Local Councillor for the Bishopsworth Ward in South Bristol and a trustee of 224 Youth Zone.
Born and raised in South Bristol, Susan attended Highridge Infants and Bishopsworth Juniors (now St Peter’s), before moving on to Withywood School, college, and into employment. She later raised her own daughters in the local area, deepening her family’s long-standing ties to the community.
For over 30 years, Susan has dedicated her career to supporting individuals and families across South Bristol. She began her work with Barnardo’s as part of Sure Start and later became a Careers Advice and Guidance Counsellor at The Gatehouse Centre. Based for many years at Filwood’s One-Job Shop, she went on to work across central Bristol—including St Paul’s, Easton, and Barton Hill—helping people from diverse backgrounds access training, employment, and new opportunities.
Alongside this, Susan developed a passion for teaching. After delivering online employability courses, she gained her Level 5 Diploma in Education & Training and now teaches English, Maths, and Functional Skills full-time to 16–19 year olds, as well as adults in evening classes.
Susan’s vision as a councillor is clear: “I want to bring our community together—supporting individuals, families, businesses, and organisations—and help build a future where everyone can thrive.” She sees 224 Youth Zone as vital to this mission. “Youth work is life-changing. I believe passionately that young people in South Bristol deserve the very best spaces, opportunities, and support—and 224 Youth Zone will deliver just that.”
Susan brings both lived experience and professional expertise to her trustee role, and she is committed to ensuring that South Bristol’s young people have access to the opportunities, confidence, and safe spaces they need to succeed.
