Julian is a native Bristolian and was initially bought up in Knowle where his father was the local GP for many years. After training in financial services Julian established his own firm in Bristol which eventually became a nationwide business and was listed on the stock market. He has also been fortunate enough to have a secondary career as a professional pilot and still flies part time. He has held numerous directorships and non-executive directorships and is a keen supporter of new start businesses in Bristol. Julian has also established a successful property development company comprising retail, commercial, hospitality and student accommodation.
Over the years Julian has held numerous positions as both a trustee and schools’ governor. He has been involved with the Princes’ Trust, The Grateful Society, Quartet, St Stephen’s and Caring for the Elderly as well as supporting a variety of other Bristol charities. He is a founder member of Bristol Breakfast Rotary Club. His experience in the commercial world and not for profit has included chairing a variety of companies and charities and advising in areas such as corporate governance, compliance and remuneration.
The creation of the 224 Youth Zone will be one of the most important youth initiatives in Bristol this century. As with other trustees Julian believes in giving back to help young people unlock their full potential. There is no doubt that investing and empowering young people will lead to a better future. By doing this we will help young people achieve an expanding level of self-confidence and resilience which will help them reach that potential.
